Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have spoken about the quotes made by Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho after his side’s Premier League 2 all draw against Newcastle on Sunday.
Spurs were leading 2:1 at St James’ Park via a Harry Kane brace after Joelinton put the home side 1 nil up.
However, Arsenal loanee Joe Willock secured a point for the home side with just 5 minutes left to play, denying the Portuguese’s side the chance to go level on points with Chelsea on fourth.
Jose Mourinho was not pleased after the game and this was shown in his comments when he was questioned by the press.
One of the questions he was asked resulted in this answer; “Same coach, different players”. The answer caught the attention of the two Match of the Day 2 pundits who spoke about it.
Ian Wright questioned: “It was an excellent question from Juliette Ferrington because what is it? If you’re saying it’s the same coach, different players, then are you saying that you, as a coach, are good enough but your players aren’t good enough to understand what you’re doing?
“It was an excellent question and it would have been interesting for him to answer it as he’s just left it open. How are you feeling if you’re in the dressing room?”
In response to Wright’s question, Alan Shearer added: “It’s criticism of his players, he’s basically saying that he’s a good enough coach but his players aren’t good enough.
“That’s why he’s made so many changes in the backline as he’s still searching and trying for a formula.
“We said before the game that the back four was get-at-able and Newcastle should create chances against that, which they did.”
Tottenham still have all to play for and are two points behind Chelsea after the Blues suffered a shock 5:2 loss to West Brom. Meanwhile, Liverpool trail Spurs on goal difference with 8 games left to play.
