Manchester City are reportedly ready to make a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara and the coach Hans-Dieter Flick has admitted that he believes that a Premier League move must be the next step for the Spaniard.
Thiago has one year left on his contract with the Bundesliga giants and has told the club he would like to leave this summer for a new challenge.
He has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Liverpool but it is understood that although Klopp admires the 29-year-old, a move is not likely till they let go of a key player in their midfield.
Liverpool are discussing with Georgino Wijnaldum and are yet to agree terms with the Dutchman for a new contract as he enters the final 12 months of his current contract. However, it is unlikely that the player will be looking to leave Anfield.
Therefore, the latest report of a Thiago move to Manchester City appears to be the most concrete one presently. According to French broadcaster Le10Sport claim that PSG have interest in Thiago, and include Man City in their latest report.
It can be recalled that City boss Pep Guardiola managed Thiago in his time as Barcelona manager and also brought the midfielder to Bayern when he was appointed as Bayern boss. David Silva will leave the club in the summer and a reunion between the two Spaniards at the Etihad might be on the cards.
Regardless, Flick believes that a move to the Premier League would be best for Alcantara: “As a person and as an athlete, I can understand him,’ the Bayern head coach told Sport Bild.
”Thiago played for Barcelona, and seven years for Bayern. Now he wants a new challenge, which in my opinion must be the Premier League.”
We wait to see how events pan out as the summer transfer window progresses to see where he eventually ends up ahead of the 2020/21 season.
