A report by the Mirror suggests that AS Roma are prepared to pay £15m for a permanent deal for Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the end of the season. The attacker has enjoyed a decent season with the Serie A club and Roma boss Paulo Fonseca wants him to remain at the club after the loan spell.
Arsenal are only willing to sell the 31-year-old for a fee of £22m but will have to lower their fee if they’re to have Roma take him off their books. Therefore, Mikel Arteta may have to make do with Roma’s offer in a bid to raise funds for an overhaul of the Arenal squad next summer.
Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in January 2018 in a swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move in the opposite direction to Manchester United. However, both clubs have failed to derive utility from the duo. Mkhitaryan struggled at Arsenal before making the loan move to Roma last summer while Alexis Sanchez is at Inter Milan.
He has been decent since the loan move to Roma although his start was hampered by injuries. Regardless, he has scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in 17 appearances for the club. It’s no surprise that Paulo Fonseca wants him to remain at the club.
