Rudiger still committed to Chelsea despite Bayern links

Reports suggest that Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger may be close to a departure from Stamford Bridge but the German defender has insisted that he is still committed to performing well for Chelsea regardless of his being linked with Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old has established himself as a mainstay in Thomas Tuchel’s team since he took over as Blues boss.

Rudiger played a vital part in Chelsea’s UCL triumph last term and was one of the back three that ensured that the Blues conceded just two goals in the knockout stages of last season’s UCL competition.

He has maintained his place in the team and has played full90 minutes in all but one Premier League game for Chelsea in the ongoing 2021/22 season.

However, his future at Chelsea appears uncertain with the January transfer window approaching. The player has been in talks with the club over an extension of his contract but both parties have failed to reach an agreement.

If an agreement is not reached, Rudiger will be a free agent at the end of the season and will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club once the year ends.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are reportedly keeping tabs on the German and have been tipped to make a move for him in January. Regardless, he is yet to be worried about his future at the moment.

“For now I am only concentrating on what is happening right now,” Rudiger told Welt am Sonntag. “I owe that to the club, the coach, and the team.”

When asked about a potential move to the Bundesliga ahead of next season, he replied: “I’m currently only focused on Chelsea. We’ll see what happens.”
