Sarri – Ronaldo creates one problem but solves a 100 more

Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri believes that Cristiano Ronaldo appears to create more problems than he solves, but nevertheless, solves more, after another match-winning performance for the Old Ladies.

The 34-year-old who recently shook off a knee problem was on the scoresheet for Juventus in the 2:1 win against Parma in the Serie A. He scored both goals for Sarri’s men as they opened up a 4 point lead over Inter Milan at the top of the table.

Cristiano Ronaldo now has 16 Serie A goals including 11 in his last 7 games as Juventus continue the chase for a 9th successive Serie A triumph. It was enough for the Italian tactician to erase doubts being raised about the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner on if he was worth the trouble of building the team around him.

“Sometimes, Ronaldo creates a small problem because you know you have a champion in the team and it has to be set up around him but at the same time it solves 100 of them,” said Sarri.

“You just have to be clear that everything revolves around him.”

Concerns were raised at some points in the season that Juve looked better on a few occasions when the Portuguese was absent, and that the partnership between Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala has had flourished in his absence.

It appears that Cristiano Ronaldo sometimes has an overbearing presence in the team, displaying a body language that makes him appear impatient with supposedly less gifted and experienced team-mates.

His insistence on always taking every penalty and freekick despite his poor success rate is also another cause for concern. The Portuguese has not scored a freekick in his one-and-a-half season with Juventus thus far. Regardless of whatever may have transpired at some points in the season, Sarri insisted that it was all in the past:

“He’s succeeded in recovering from the aches and pains and he has been able to train consistently,” said Sarri. “He is in brilliant form physically.

“I think it’s a matter of physical condition and mental condition. The fact that he is scoring repeatedly means that his self-confidence is at its best right now. He is an animal who feeds off goals.”
