Solskjaer’s United – Kings of the derby at the Etihad
Pep Guardiola and his City side were flying the Premier League and were taking lots of sides to the cleaners. Their fans were even anticipating a legendary run of wins until Ole Gunnar Solskajer and his Red Devils side happened.
Man City seemed unstoppable ahead of the game but Manchester United would not have it.
Their local rivals were heavy favorites for all 3 points and this was the impression from various football prediction sites. However, it counted for nothing eventually as the underdogs won the game.
The Red Devils have been phenomenal away from home in the Premier League this season and the result on the day was further proof that their away form is no fluke, regardless of how they set up.
Before the announcement of Solskjaer as Man United’s boss, the Citizens were owning the Red Devils in the Manchester Derby.
They were always favorites when both sides met in any competition and would emerge victoriously most of the time.
However, this has changed since Ole entered the fray. Manchester derbies have now become unpredictable regardless of the form of both sides and are now evenly poised.
Funny enough, even if the Citizens were in the form of their lives, there is still a significant possibility that with Solskjaer, the Red Devils can cause an upset.
The 2 nil Premier League win at the Etihad against a supposedly invincible Man City side was a major pointer that Ole and his men are now very comfortable in that venue.
Man City have beaten Man United just once in the last 5 games at the Etihad in all competitions. The Red Devils have won 4 out of the last 5 games between both sides at the venue and this should be a concern for Pep Guardiola.
The fans must have their bragging rights and no fan is happy seeing a local rival being the bane of his team, especially in home games where his side are the overwhelming favorite.
Man City are still overwhelming favorites for the 2020/21 Premier League title but Guardiola has to work on attaining glory days at the Etihad in Manchester derbies, especially against this Ole Gunnar Solskjaer led side.
