UEFA to discuss UCL fate and other competitions on Wednesday

The fate of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League and other UEFA competitions will be discussed by Europe's soccer governing body in a video conference meeting on Wednesday due to the coronavirus pandemic. All UEFA competitions are currently on hold because of the flu-like virus that has claimed around 34,000 lives while the European Championship has been postponed to 2021. UEFA president points out risk of season being lost

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has admitted that the 2019/20 season could be lost if it doesn't resume by the end of June although he didn't rule out a possible extension into next season. He made this known in a chat with Italian newspaper La Repubblica and stated that there were a number of options for concluding the season which has been halted by the coronavirus pandemic. "There is a plan A, B and C. The three options are to start again in mid-May, in June or at the end of June, if we don't succeed, the season will probably be lost," he said. He went on to add: "There is also the possibility of starting again at the beginning of the next, starting the following one later. We will see the best solution for leagues and clubs." Coronavirus – Ligue 1 games to be behind closed doors or limited to 1,000 fans

Ligue 1 matches will either be played behind closed doors or the number of fans will be restricted to 1,000 as part of the measures being put in place to curb the coronavirus menace. The Minister of sport Roxana Maracineanu made this confirmation after heading a meeting on Monday where discourse was made on plans to combat the outbreak. It can be recalled that Paris Saint-Germain's game against Strasbourg originally scheduled for last Saturday was postponed due to the virus.
