Bayern and Porto must do it the hard way to progress

UEFA Champions League action returns today as Chelsea play hosts to Porto in Seville while Paris Saint-Germain host Bayern Munich at Parc Des Princes in the second leg of their respective quarter-final encounters. Chelsea and Porto are wrestling for a place in the last four in a neutral venue and the Blues currently have the advantage after beating the Portuguese outfit 2 nil in the first leg at the same venue. Porto will be keen to overturn the deficit which is a gargantuan task and we wait to see if manager Sergio Conceicao will be willing to feature Sergio Oliveira in this game having missed the first leg of the clash. Both sides are coming off the back of domestic wins and will be brimming with confidence. Porto will be expected to take the game to Chelsea in this one and if t...

Tuchel’s pep talk to Havertz that inspired his improved performance

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has opened up on the pep talk he gave Germany international Kai Havertz which resulted in one of his finest performances for Chelsea since he arrived from Bayern Leverkusen in the summer. Havertz has struggled to adapt in his first season in the Premier League, failing to live up to expectations and the £72million the Blues shelled out to acquire his signature. He was subbed off in the 65th minute against Porto in the UCL last Wednesday after failing to impress in his time on the pitch. However, he bounced back and produced the goods in the next game against Crystal Palace in the Premier League in a 4:1 win away from home at Selhurst Park last Saturday. He scored the game's opener and also provided an assist. Speaking about what he told his compatriot...

Lampard defends duo and compares them to Hazard

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has come to the defense of under-fire duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz after they scored against Morecambe in the FA Cup on Sunday and compared them to Eden Hazard. Werner and Havertz have struggled recently but played their parts in the FA Cup 4 nil victory on Sunday.  The German striker's goal was his first goal in 13 games in all competitions while Havertz has not been top-notch since he suffered from coronavirus at the early stages of the season. Lampard has been under pressure recently due to the poor form of both players but jumped to their defense after they booked their place in Monday's fourth-round draw. The Englishman made reference to Eden Hazard's time at Chelsea, stating that the Belgian took some time before fully settling in at Stamford...

Time will tell if Kai Havertz’ EFL cup hat-trick was a fluke or not

Chelsea's new boy Kai Havertz will be on the news for the right reasons in the coming days after netting a hattrick for the Blues in the EFL Cup game against Championship side Barnsley at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. This will be a major relief for the club and the young German who heaved a sigh of relief after scoring his first goal for the Blues. The German has been under scrutiny, mostly due to his huge price tag since his arrival at Chelsea. Havertz was average at best in his first competitive game for the Blues. It was his side's 2020/21 Premier League opener away at the Amex against Brighton which they won 3:1. It was a game that saw the German give a long pass to the linesman and this has been the highlight of his Chelsea performances up till now though it's just 2 g...

Chelsea vs Liverpool preview – First big game of the season

It's still early days in the 2020/21 Premier League season with the Matchday 2's fixtures yet to be executed, but we have a cracker on our hands already as Chelsea will welcome defending Champions Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. I'm sure a good number of football fans can still recollect how the last Premier League game between these two sides panned out although it was at Anfield. A whopping eight goals were scored the last time they met with the Reds emerging victoriously with a 5:3 win in an enthralling game. Regardless, both sides will face each other coming off the back of garnering maximum points in their opening game of the season. Liverpool had to rely on an 88th-minute penalty converted by hat-trick hero Mohammed Salah to beat newly-promoted Leeds United 4:3 at An...

Chelsea can now begin official moves for Kai Havertz

Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Bayern Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz after completing deals for the likes of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech ahead of the 2020/21 season. There has been no headway thus far but it is believed that a move could be close according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal was on hold due to dispute on transfer fee as well as the player's involvement with Leverkusen for the remainder of the Europa League. This was not the case with Werner who left RB Leipzig after signing for the Blues although they are still in the Champions League. Regardless, Leverkusen insisted that Havertz must finish the season with them. Blow for Chelsea in pursuit of Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz

Chelsea have already seen the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig ahead of the 2020/21 season. They've been heavily linked with Bayern Leverkusen's Kai Havertz in a deal that sources claim is as good as done. However, the Blues have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the midfielder as Bayern Leverkusen have insisted that Kai Havterz won't leave until they are done with their Europa League exertions next month. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen to secure a deal for the 21-year-old so he can settle quickly in West London in preparation for the upcoming season which begins in September. However, Leverkusen director Rudi Voller has revealed that nothing is cast in stone and that Havertz will participate in the climax of the Europa League. READ: Ba...
