Football is a sport where fortunes can change in an instant, and this has been the case on several occasions in the round leather game.
We’ve seen such cases on the pitch with regards to full-time results as well as in the pursuit of domestic league titles across the major football leagues, amongst others.
We’re seeing one instance in the 2020/21 La Liga season where most of us thought that Diego Simeone’s impressive Atletico Madrid had run away with the league title as major and perennial contenders in the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid continued to falter.
However, they won’t be running away with it because we now have a tough and competitive race for the title.
Therefore, this begs the question; Can Atletico Madrid overcome the pressure being mounted by the two teams directly below them and land the La Liga title?

This question has to be raised as the Rojiblancos will now be under pressure to deliver as Barcelona and Real Madrid seem to have rejuvenated on the domestic scene.
The result of the last five games amongst the top three teams in the table have caused a major shift.
Barcelona have been the most consistent side in the last 5 games with 4 wins and 1 draw and this has resulted in the reduction of the points difference between them and table toppers Atletico Madrid.
The latter, on the other hand, have won just twice, lost once, and drawn two in the last five games. Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid have three wins and two draws, with the draws coming in their last two games.

Therefore, although Diego Simeone’s men have a game in hand, they lead Barcelona with just three points and Real Madrid with five points with about twelve games to go. I daresay that the league can be won by any of the top three from now.
This calls for concern for Atletico Madrid. Many folks thought that they had run away with the title. However, the chasers have seemingly sorted themselves out in this critical stage of the season, going by recent results, and will be up for the fight for the title.
Barcelona have been impressive in recent weeks and with the election of a new president in Joan Laporta, who had previously held the position at the club, things might change and Lionel Messi could start firing from all cylinders.

Not like he has not been impressive this season despite distractions at the club both on and off the pitch.
Diego Simeone and his men have to be consistent or they may find themselves playing catch up to Real Madrid and Barcelona in the next few weeks.
We now have a competitive 2020/21 La Liga title race on our hands and we look forward to the surprises that the top three contenders will spring up as the season progresses toward its end.
