The Premier League continues today with two of the top 4 contenders in action. Manchester United, who presently sit 5th with 62 points, 1 point below Chelsea on 3rd and level with Leicester on 5th, will play hosts to West Ham at Old Trafford in a must-win encounter.
Chelsea will also face a very tough task away from home against Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield. The Reds won’t want to celebrate their trophy parade with a loss and it’s also their last game at home this season.
Leicester City already lost 3 nil away to Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend and will be on their knees hoping that these two rivals falter. Regardless, we’re looking forward to finally seeing a change of positions in the top 4 places at the end of today’s fixtures.
Manchester United should be able to do enough to beat a rejuvenated West Ham at home. The Red Devils are favorites for all 3 points and should finally enter the top 4.
They’ve been letting such opportunities slip all season but this should be their last chance, and they must take it to be in good standing for Champions League football next season.
However, they’ll also have an eye on Chelsea. A loss for the Blues today will keep Man United in good standing as they’ll move to 3rd if they win, lead the Blues with 2 points, and can afford to draw in their last game at the King Power.
However, if the Blues manage a win, then it will be one spot remaining for grabs. Meanwhile, Chelsea have to be wary of their next two opponents.
Frank Lampard and his men must, by all means, try to avoid a defeat against Liverpool. Avoiding a loss today will speak volumes of their credentials for a top 4 finish.
If the Blues go on to beat Liverpool, a big feat indeed, regardless of Liverpool’s average form recently, then a top 4 finish is all but sealed.
The Blues play next against a very stubborn Wolves who will be looking to seal qualification to the Europa on the final day at Stamford Bridge.
It’s a very tricky game for the Blues and I daresay they have to win tonight to make it less tricky and be in control of their UCL qualification chances. It has been a funny Premier League top 4 race thus far but there should be a change in positions today.
If that’s not the case, then it’s a strange top 4 race indeed that could see one of the big guns in Manchester United or Chelsea miss out on next season’s UCL competition in favor of Leicester City. We await today’s results.
