1. Atiba Hutchinson

Atiba Hutchinson is the man of the moment and one of the best Canadian soccer players to watch out for in the ongoing 2021/22 season. He has played for the likes of PSV, Copenhagen, Besiktas amongst others. He currently plays for Besiktas and won the award for the Canadian Men’s Player of the Year award in 2021

2. Patrice Bernier

He is one of the former captains of the Canadian national team and was active from 2000 to 2017 for the likes of Montreal Impact, Kaiserslautern, Lyngby BK, amongst others. It can be recalled that he was the captain of the Canadian soccer team in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

4. Julian De Guzman

Julian De Guzman established himself as one of the best Canadian soccer players in his. He is one of Canada’s greatest players of all time considering that he played the most matches for the national team with 89 appearances to his name. 

He also established himself as the first Canadian to play in La Liga and carved a niche for himself as one of the key men at Deportivo La Coruna at the time. He played as a midfielder with 1 goal in 97 appearances for the Spanish side.

5. Craig Forrest

Craig Forrest carved a niche for himself as an elite goalkeeper for Canada. He was the best player for Canada and in the 200o CONCACAF Gold Cup which he led them to. He has represented the likes of Chelsea, Ipswich Town, and West Ham and conceded just 3 goals whilst leading Canada to Gold Cup triumph in 2000.

6. Fernando Aguiar 

He’s one of Canada’s best soccer players of all time although he also played for Portugal and has dual citizenship. He was a rugged defensive midfielder and played for teams in Canada and Portugal. However, he was at his best between 2002 and 2004 when he played for Benfica in Portugal.

7. Junior Hoilett

Junior Hoilett played his part and was popular in the English Premier League with the likes of Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers, and QPR with over 200 games to his name. He was a pacy attacker who wreaked havoc from the wings. He has 13 goals in 39 appearances for Canada and currently plays for Reading in the English Championship.

8. Scott Arfield

This is another Canadian soccer player with a strange story considering that he once played for the U21 national team of Scotland. He became popular in his time with Premier League outfit Burnley but currently plays for Rangers of Scotland. It can be recalled that he switched to represent Canada in 2016.

9. Owen Hargreaves 

Owen Hargreaves would easily pass for an English player but it should be known that he was born in Calgary and also possesses a Canadian passport.

10. Randy Samuel

The Trinidad-born Canadian defender was more of a fighter whose fighting spirit played a major part in some good results for the Canadian soccer team. He played 82 games for Canada and was inducted into the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame in 2006. It appears his inclusion here cannot be faulted or questioned due to the recognition he got in 2006.
