The United States Major League Soccer has seen its share of prolific goalscorers over the years, especially after attaining the needed popularity over the years. 

Currently, the 2021 MLS season is in progress and is nearing its end. Regardless, we’ve taken the time to do some research and provide you with reliable MLS all-time stats and MLS top goalscorers.

It’s no news that some of the players on our list of the top 10 MLS highest goalscorers of all time have also played for some of the best clubs in Europe. It appears that some of the players listed have also attained the feat of most goals in MLS season by a player.

The players in this list carved niches for themselves during their playing time in the MLS while some were still active even at the start of the year 2021.

The likes of Chris Wondolowski and Bradley Wright-Phillips are still active players in the MLS as at the time of writing. Let’s proceed to the list of the highest goalscorers in MLS history and US Major League Soccer.

10. Taylor Twellman

Taylor Twellman established himself in his days as a player for the New England Revolution from 2002 to 2009 when he outscored all players in the period. 

When the question of most goals in MLS season by a player comes up, the name Twellman should ring bells in this regard. He also carved a niche for himself as the youngest player to score 100 goals in the MLS. What a feat! He was also one of the best MLS top scorers in one season.

He scored 101 goals in 174 appearances for New England Revolution and is from the United States. He is the highest goalscorer for the club and it can be recalled that has been named as an MLS All-Star five times and emerged victoriously with the United States in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2007.

9. Dwayne De Rosario

Does Canada have relatively talented footballers? Well, this is one Canadian that played as a forward or attacking midfielder in the MLS. In his playing days, he played for the likes of SanJose Earthquakes, Houston Dynamo, Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls, and DC United.

Dwayne De Rosario scored 104 goals in 342 appearances in his career. He won the MLS Cup four times and the MLS MVP award in 2011. He is also Canada’s top scorer with 22 goals in 81 games.

8. Jason Kreis

Jason Kries played for the United States and is presently the assistant coach for Inter Miami under Phil Neville. He won the MLS MVP award in 1999 and the course of his career established himself as the all-time leading goalscorer in the MLS. He played for FC Dallas, formerly known as Dallas Burn.

The American scored 108 goals in 305 MLS games. He earned 14 caps for the United States with 1 goal to his name.

7. Ante Razov

This former United States forward is the current assistant coach at Los Angeles FC. It should be known that he became the all-time leading goalscorer for two different clubs in his playing days, Chicago Fire and Chivas USA respectively. Speaking about the MLS all-time stats, he was the third player to score 100 goals in MLS history.

Razov found the back of the net 114 times in 262 appearances. He scored 6 goals in 25 games for the United States.

6. Bradley Wright-Phillips

This Englishman is one of the players on the list still playing active football in the MLS. He currently plays as a striker for Columbus Crew SC. He started his career at Manchester City in England before making the move to America in 2017. He equaled the record for most goals in the MLS season by a player with 27.

He has 117 goals in 230 games as of the time of writing and is also an MLS Golden Boot winner. It is expected that the Englishman would be in the top 5 places of this list when he retires.

5. Kei Kamara

This is one African player that was very impressive in the MLS. He is from Sierra Leone and currently plays for HIFK in Finland. He is a towering striker and it should be noted that he played most of his career in the MLS before calling it quits with football in America. He scored a whopping 130 goals in 359 MLS games.

4. Jaime Moreno

The Bolivian played for D.C. United for most of his playing career. When he retired in 2010, he was the highest goalscorer in the MLS, and in 2009, established himself as the first MLS player to score 100 goals and provide 100 assists. 

He scored 133 goals in 340 appearances in the MLS. In his international career, he played five Copa America tournaments and also played for Bolivia in the 1994 FIF World Cup.

3. Jeff Cunningham

Jeff Cunningham is an American forward who won two MLS Golden Boot winner awards and also made it to the MLS Best XI three times. He had 134 goals in 365 MLS games. At the international level, he played 14 games for the United States with one goal to his name.

2. Landon Donovan

Donovan was a popular man in his playing days and has a host of MLS records to his name. In the United States, he is regarded as one of the United States’ best men soccer players of all time and has the numbers to defend him.

He is one of the United States players that was very impressive in his time abroad. He scored 146 goals in 340 MLS games, holds the record for most MLS Cups with six, and is also the MLS all-time assists leader. It can be recalled that he was also awarded the MLS Greatest Player of All Time award.

1. Chris Wondolowski

This is the most prolific player in the history of the MLS and is still active for the San Jose Earthquakes. He is the all-time MLS top goalscorer and is the only player in the history of the league to score 10 or more goals in ten consecutive seasons. Wondolowski also holds the record for the most MLS game-winning goals.

Chris Wondolowski has scored 168 goals in 404 games as at the time of writing. 

It can be recalled that he won 2 MLS Cups with Houston Dynamo and 2 Supporters’ Shields with the San Jose Earthquakes. He has won the MLS Golden boot on two occasions and has made it to the MLS Best XI three times.
