Thiago Alcantara has urged teammate Philippe Coutinho to reject a move to the Premier League and stay put in Germany. The Brazil international has struggled for form since his move from Liverpool to Barcelona in 2018.
He has been on loan at Bayern Munich from Barcelona this season and continues to be linked with a permanent move away from Barcelona. According to reports, Chelsea are very close to signing the midfielder who has been limited to a bit-part role at Bayern Munich this season.
Although he has started just 15 Bundesliga games this season, Thiago Alcantara believes in the playmaker’s ability and wants him to continue with Bayern. In a chat with Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, Thiago said:
‘I know him well. He’s very good. I’ve seen him play since he was 12 years old.
‘I played futsal against him in Brazil and he loved it. He doesn’t think he lacks anything.
‘I love playing with high-level footballers and he is a phenomenon. He is a spectacular guy, super hard-working, with an unbeatable technique and incredible definition.
‘Players go through good and not so good moments and he is giving us a lot. We hope to have him next year too
Meanwhile, Chelsea have already secured the signature of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and he will join the Blues this summer.
They’ve also reportedly activated a clause for the extension of Olivier Giroud’s contract until 2021. However, the likes of Willian and Pedro whose contracts expire at the end of the season could be allowed to leave.
Willian has been linked with Arsenal but has hinted that he’s open to a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur who he remains big friends with. It remains to be seen if this will be possible considering that he rejected a Spurs move for Chelsea initially.
