It’s no more news that the German Bundesliga is the rave of the moment in club football and football at large across Europe and the world. Therefore we want to take a look at the top five assist kings of the 2019/20 season thus far in the Bundesliga ahead of action this weekend.

The Germans return to competitive action on the pitch this weekend after a forced suspension for more than two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Premier League has been the league that attracts the most fans around the world during weekends, but football action is still suspended in England. Therefore, the Germans will be saving the day for football fans that have been starved in the last two months.

1. Thomas Muller – Bayern Munich

Thomas Muller’s numbers when it comes to providing assists are the highest this season thus far in the Bundesliga. His linkup with Robert Lewandowski who has maintained his prolific scoring form has been a major factor.

Muller has 16 assists to his name thus far with most of his assists coming from the attacking midfield center position of the pitch (5).

The Germany international is not the best dribbler but his key passing abilities are top-notch and have been proven by the number of assists he has garnered thus far.

He’ll be called on when Bayern Munich face Union Berlin away from home on Sunday. Muller will be looking to add to his numbers as he currently has 6 goals in the Bundesliga.

2. Jadon Sancho – Borussia Dortmund

The England international who might be playing in the Premier League next season if reports are to be believed is second best in the assist rankings of the Bundesliga with 15 assists to his name. 

He has also scored 14 Bundesliga goals for Borussia Dortmund this season and will be looking to improve on his numbers when they face Schalke in the local derby on Saturday.

His passing and dribbling abilities have played a part in the numbers he has garnered from the flanks this season.

He’s very lethal from both the right and left flanks but has the most numbers of assists from the right side of attacking midfield (6), based on statistics from Whoscored. However, he has scored the most goals this season from the left (6).

We await to see his performance against Schalke on Saturday as Dortmund need a win to keep the pressure on first-placed Bayern Munich and open the gap against third-placed RB Leipzig.

3. Christopher Nkunku – RB Leipzig

The 22-year-old Frenchman has been a hit for third-placed RB Leipzig this season. His key passing and set-piece abilities are top-notch as he has 12 assists to his name, the third-highest in the Bundesliga thus far.

The versatile midfielder who can also play as a forward has goals to his name and will be looking to add more as they pursue Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title. They are five points off the top spot with 50 points garnered.

They welcome eight-placed Freiburg this Saturday and will be looking to get back to winning ways after drawing 3 of their last 5 games. 

They drew their last 2 games before the league was suspended due to COVID-19. The Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner partnership has to come to light in this game.

4. Thorgan Hazard – Borussia Dortmund

The Belgium international has been one of the key creative outlets at the Signal Iduna Park this season. He has 10 assists to his name thus far in a team that also parades a very creative Jadon Sancho.

He also has 5 goals to his name this season and will be needed against Schalke this weekend. The midfielder has been most creative from the left side of attacking midfield with 3 assists coming from that position.

5. Achraf Hakimi – Borussia Dortmund

Achraf Hakimi is one of the most versatile players in the Bundesliga. The Morocco international is a defender who can play in both fullback positions and can also be deployed as a midfielder on the flanks.

He has been most creative when deployed on the right side of defensive midfield where he has garnered 6 assists. He has scored 3 goals this season for Dortmund in the Bundesliga and will be looking to improve on his numbers against Schalke. Hopefully, he plays a major positive part.
