PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has urged the club to decide on Neymar’s future as quickly as possible. The Brazilian who has been heavily linked with a summer return to Spain played no part in PSG’s Ligue one 4 nil win over Toulouse on Sunday.
In a chat with Canal+ (h/t Goal’s Josh Thomas), Tuchel said: “It has always been our goal to close this folder as soon as possible. Leonardo knows that I want to keep him. But that doesn’t depend only on him. The situation is not very clear, yes. And we must clear it up.”
It can be recalled that Neymar suffered an ankle injury in June which ruled him out of the Copa America, causing him to spend the pre-season in recovery.
He is yet to feature for the Parc des Princes outfit the season and Tuchel revealed that he would have been involved in the action against Toulouse if the club were certain about his future with them.
PSG went on to win comfortably through a brace from Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, an own goal from Matthieu Goncalves and the last goal from Marquinhos.
There were injury concerns as Edinson Cavani was taken off after just 14 minutes due to a groin problem while Kylian Mbappe was withdrawn during the second half due to a hamstring injury.
The injuries to the duo could yet play a part in Neymar’s stay or exit from PSG. The Brazilian has found the back of the net 51 times and provided 29 assists in his last 58 games for the French champions.
Meanwhile, the transfer window shuts on September 2, and it remains to be seen if he stays beyond this summer or returns to Barcelona who have been heavily reported as his next destinations.
