Two charged over attempted robbery of Ozil and Kolasinac in London

Tow men are facing charges following the attempted robbery involving Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac in North London in July.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, 30-year-old Ashley Smith and 26-year-old Jordan Northover have been charged with attempted robbery and threatening a person with an offensive weapon in public after the incident which occurred in Platts Lane on July 25.

Smith was also charged with the possession of Cannabis. It can be recalled that security footage emerged some months back showing Kolasinac fighting off one of the attackers in an act of heroism after they targetted Ozil’s car, as one appeared to be wielding a knife.

A report from ESPN FC stated that Ozil was trying to protect his wife Amine Gulse who was in the car with him. He was pursued by the masked attackers for five minutes before arriving at Turkish hotel Libya in Golders Green where he was assisted by employees.

Both players were not hurt but played no part in Arsenal’s first game of the 2019/20 season against Newcastle United as they were withdrawn from the first team after the incident
