Frank Lampard was relieved of his duties as Chelsea manager on Monday morning to the surprise of many folks who didn’t see it coming this soon, especially after the victory against Luton Town in the FA Cup.
The Englishman’s last Premier League game in charge was the 2 nil defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. The Blues are currently ninth in the Premier League and 5 points off the top 4 places.
As expected, his dismissal has left the fanbase divided due to his legendary status at the club as many thought that he would be given time to turn fortunes around. However, Roman Abramovich had seen enough and was having none of it.
Recent reports reveal that other dressing room issues may have contributed to his sack.
A report by The Telegraph suggests that Antonio Rudiger clashed with club captain Cesar Azpoilicueta on multiple occasions at the club’s training ground.
The Spaniard was trying to ease tensions between players in the team but Rudiger was against it.
The report further states that the younger academy players in the team who have thrived under Lampard have complained about the treatment they’ve been receiving from their more experienced teammates, as the older ones are not satisfied with their current roles.
However, there was no confirmation on if the incidents were linked but these are indications that Chelsea’s training ground has not been a happy place in recent months.
Meanwhile, fans of the club have been dissatisfied with Rudiger for his clashes with Azpilicueta and have been feasting on him on Twitter.
It can be recalled that the German defender was exiled by Lampard for most of the 2020/21 season as the pairing of Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma was his preferred choice.
However, the German was in the starting lineup ahead of Kurt Zouma in three of Lampard’s last four Premier League games in his time as Chelsea boss.
We wait to see how events pan out at Stamford Bride with these recent developments.
