Cristiano Ronaldo will return to Madrid as Atletico Madrid play host to Juventus in the first leg of the round of 16 encounters between the two clubs on Wednesday night.
The Rojiblancos have a lot to be worried about ahead of the game as the Portuguese appears to have hit form ahead of this crunch game which is expected to be very tight as both sides place major emphasis on defence in their style of play.
Cristiano Ronaldo hit the back of the net a whopping 22 times in 31 matches against Diego Simeone’s men in his time at Real Madrid and he will be looking to continue the impressive scoring form when Juventus come visiting in a bid to continue their quest for UEFA Champions League success.
However, Ronaldo could be a bit wary of the return to Spain as his first game with Juventus in Spain against Valencia at the Mestalla saw him receive a red card after just 28 minutes. The Old Ladies went on to win the game by 2 goals to nil even with a man down.
Juventus will be relying on Ronaldo’s scoring abilities in the UCL in this one as they hope to continue their quest for a UCL win after a long while.
One wouldn’t blame the Turin outfit. After all, reports had it that the Portuguese star was signed to improve their chances of winning the UCL. Therefore, the time is now for Ronaldo to start showing his mettle in his arguably favorite football competition.
Speaking ahead of the game, Juventus boss, Massimiliano Allegri said:
“We have to score at least one goal in Madrid, our qualification depends on this”
“The two teams are evenly balanced.”
