UCL Matchday 1- Ronaldo set to rival Messi, but in a Juve shirt

Lionel Messi bagged a hat-trick for Barcelona yesterday in the first set of games of Match Day 1 of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League against Eredivisie champions PSV.

One season ago and we would have been looking to see if his rival Cristiano Ronaldo would replicate similar performance and to bag his for Real Madrid.

This won’t be the case this term as the Portuguese is now with Juventus but there is still room for rivalry between the two especially in the UEFA Champions League.

Funny enough, Cristiano Ronaldo will return to Spain tonight and visits the Mestalla. He’ll be doing this in a Juventus shirt, and having broken his duck last weekend with a brace against Sassuolo in the Serie A, one would expect him to continue his fine scoring form in the UEFA Champions League tonight.

The Mestalla welcomes a very familiar foe, and just imagine the headlines if Cristiano Ronaldo manages a hat-trick tonight.

We have an exciting game on the cards as well as an exciting match day as his former teammates will also be welcoming another Serie A side AS Roma to the Santiago Bernabeu tonight.

Real Madrid will begin their fourth consecutive UCL defense in the absence of Ronaldo. They will also do this under new manager Julen Lopetegui as they face Roma tonight.

The Los Blancos will be eager to prove that they can cut it in the highest stage even without their highest goalscorer in the competition and rightfully so.

Daniele De Rossi has admitted that Los Blancos are still formidable and are not Real-Ronaldo. He revealed that he wanted an easier fixture.

Mind games or not, we’re in for an interesting game as Eusebio Di Francesco’s men will be also looking to cause an upset tonight.

Meanwhile, Premier League giants Manchester United travel to face Young Boys in Switzerland. The Red Devils will have to toe the line of caution in this one as their previous encounters against Swiss Champions have not been favorable.

Manchester City welcome Lyon to the Etihad in a game where they are overwhelming favorites unless Fekir and his teammates who boast some former Premier League players have a thing or two to say about that.

Other games will see Shakhtar Donetsk hosting Hoffenheim, Ajax hosting AEK Athens, Benfica hosting Bayern Munich in a game of their lives, and Plzen hosting CSKA Moscow.

Tonight should be full of fun as these fixtures could spring one or two upsets. Regardless, we look forward to these cracking encounters.
