UCL – PSG vs Manchester City Match Preview

The UEFA Champions League matchday 2 continues this week with Paris Saint-Germain hosting English giants Manchester City in a mouth-watering clash.

City kicked off their UCL campaign with an entertaining 6-3 win over German side RB Leipzig whilst PSG settled for a disappointing draw against Club Brugge, a game the French side could’ve easily lost despite starting the game with the trio of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe.

Therefore, PSG would look to build on a disappointing start and would be looking for their first win of the campaign. City, on the other hand, would be looking to build on their first win and hope to increase their lead in the group.

No doubt this would be a tough encounter for both sides and should be an entertaining one.

The possible lineup for PSG

The Red and Blues coach Mauricio Pochettino is hoping that Lionel Messi would be able to recuperate from his injury and be ready to face the English side, especially with Angel Di Maria suspended. However, the former Barcelona captain is doubtful.

Marco Verratti and Sergio Ramos are also set to miss the clash, although Layvin Kurzawa, Juan Bernat, and Colin Dagba have all returned to training, and Idrissa Gueye’s UCL ban is over.

Julian Draxler may start on the right-wing if Messi is ruled unfit, while Keylor Navas, expectedly, seems to be the favorite to start over Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG possible starting XI

Navas; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Diallo; Gueye, Paredes, Herrera; Draxler, Mbappe, Neymar.

Possible Manchester City lineup

Manchester City’s defending duo Aymeric Laporte and John Stones were included in the squad against Chelsea during the weekend, with the former playing the entire 90 minutes, and Stones will be hoping to start this time.

Nathan Ake, who netted in the win over Leipzig, will not readily relinquish his spot, and it is unclear if Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ilkay Gundogan will recover from their respective injuries on time.

Given Rodri’s recent fitness issues, Fernandinho may be considered for a start, while Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres will also want to return to the front line.

Manchester City possible starting XI

Ederson; Walker, Dias, Stones, Cancelo; Silva, Fernandinho, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Torres, Grealish.

All in all, we expect this to be a tough fixture that could go both ways given the amount of quality both sides possess, but I’m backing Pep’s side to come out on top of this one as they have looked solid in defense this season.

They have also shown they can score despite playing most games without a recognized center-forward this term.

Prediction: PSG 1 : 3 Manchester City
