UEFA consider August 29 as later UCL final date

UEFA is considering proposals that would result in the Champions League final being played on August 29, three months later than the original date. The UCL final was scheduled to take place at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on May 30.

One of the new proposals that will be discussed next week by UEFA would see the final moved to Saturday, August 29, with the same venue maintained.

Meanwhile, the Europa League final which was to be played in Gdansk on May 27 could be postponed to Wednesday, August 26. The body is looking at two different options for the resumption of its club competitions.

If league football returns in June, then it could be possible to play European club games at the same time. However, if this is not the case and there is a delay, then it’s likely that European football would resume after the end of the domestic league seasons.

Meanwhile, the Premier League will meet again on Friday to consider how the season would end and reports suggest that an increasing number of clubs want the season to round up before June 30 because of player contracts.

There will be a discourse on the UEFA proposals at its Executive Committee meeting next Thursday. The talks will be held with its 55 member associations on Tuesday and the European Clubs’ Association and European Leagues on Wednesday.
