Unai Emery insists he has club’s backing to drop Ozil

Unai Emery has insisted that he has the support of the Arsenal hierarchy in his continued displacement of Mesut Ozil from the team.

Mesut Ozil has not been named in the last 5 matchday squads and the Arsenal boss’ response on the reasons for the German’s exclusion has left more to be desired, considering he’s the club’s highest-paid player in history.

Meanwhile, Ozil has been posting some cryptic messages on social media and recently admitted that he wants to remain at the club and will fight hard to regain his place in the team.

The Arsenal side has been lacking creativity in recent games and this has resulted in the player garnering support from fans who believe he has more to offer the team. More so, due to the fact that Emery has played five different players in Ozil’s position with very little to show in terms of result.

The last two games have seen them lose 1 nil away to Premier League new boys Sheffield United and also suffer several scares in the hard-fought victory over Vitoria Guimaraes in the Europa League game at the Emirates which ended 3:2.

However, Unai Emery has claimed that the club’s hierarchy agree with his decision to drop Ozil, sanctioning it as the right move.

“Here, we have one agreed strategy as a club and as a team,” he said, when asked if he was under pressure from above to play Ozil.

“Because the most important thing is the club, the team and finding a performance. Previously we were all speaking between us to take that decision.

“I know all the supporters want to know something but now is not the moment. I think it is not the moment to speak about him.

“We are going to play on Sunday and in the next matches and we are going to decide, and when we can speak about him something differently we will look.”

“This year we are playing also sometimes with just one, and he can achieve with his quality to get to the box and get closer to score and is very intelligent about getting space around the box and taking chances.

“Then also, when we prepare the team to do high pressing, for us he is very important because he is very intelligent tactically but he can play in the two positions – the two midfielders, he can play higher for the pressing and to get into the box.

“Sometimes we also use him as a one-man in midfield doing the covering for the two other players ahead.”

Arsenal face Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the Emirates on Sunday and it remains to be seen how they cope yet again in Ozil’s potential absence from the side.
