Dayot Upamecano has been the subject of numerous transfer speculations, as the elite clubs in Europe reportedly continue to eye him. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have now joined the race for the RB Leipzig defender.
This is coming after Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that the Allianz Arena outfit are planning to rival the likes of Man United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid for Upamecano.
The 22-year-old is one of the highly sought-after players in the transfer market and has seen his stock rise considerably under Julian Nagelsmann.
Bayern are resigned to losing David Alaba for free in the summer and the chief stated that the club have plans to deal with his replacement when asked if they would move for Upamecano as a replacement.
It can be recalled that the defender signed a new deal that will keep him at RB Leipzig until 2022 last year but can exit the club this summer as he has a well-documented release clause included in the contract.
‘We will of course deal with it, not only with this player, but in principle,’ Rummenigge said on Bild Live, ‘on the positions where we want to do and have to do something.’
He added: ‘In the time of Corona, the money situation is also an important factor.’
Meanwhile, Upamecano continues to attract interest from the big sides in Europe. The likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United are on the lookout for that young experienced defender to lead at the back and the 22-year-old fits the bill.
He is being considered as a generational talent whose qualities at the back speak volumes. The player is very affordable due to his clause and it is expected that the big sides will hassle each other in order to snap him up from RB Leipzig eventually.
However, with Bayern Munich now interested in the player, and with him presently playing in the Bundesliga, it won’t be a surprise if the Bavarian giants get him eventually.
