Van der Vaart hails United’s move for Van de Beek

Former Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart has praised Manchester United’s swoop for Donny van de Beek and added that the Dutchman is needed at Old Trafford and fully deserves the move to the Premier League as reports have indicated.

According to Standard Sport, a £40million deal that will make Van de Beek the first signing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United this summer is close to completion. Transfer talks between the two clubs progressed steadily and significantly over the weekend.

Manchester United have had eyes on the Dutch international for a while and considered making a move during the January transfer window before eventually settling on Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes.

Van de Beek has established himself and carved a niche for himself as one of the key men at Ajax since their UCL semi-final exertions in the 2018/19 season in addition to winning the Eredivisie.

He has also made 175 appearances for the club in all competitions since making his debut for the first team in 2015.

In light of the proposed move, former Ajax star Van der Vaart is convinced that the 23-year-old will succeed at Old Trafford and will also fill an obvious void in the side being led by Solskjaer.

“Donny deserves this transfer so much,” Van der Vaart told NOS in the Netherlands.

“He has played excellent for Ajax.

“And Manchester United really need this kind of player in their team.

“This transfer is fantastic for us [Dutch] too. We are all going to follow him now. This move is so deserved.”

Although Manchester United fans are keen for new signings to be made this summer, some have questioned the move for the Dutchman considering the presence of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in the team.

Ole definitely has a plan for the impressive midfielder with a deal set to be concluded in the coming days. We wait to see how the Norwegian signing eases Van de Beek into the team if a move is finalized.
