Van Dijk hails van de Beek’s move to rivals Man United

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has expressed the belief that van de Beek’s proposed move to rivals Manchester United is a great step for the midfielder.

Reports have indicated that the midfielder is very close to a £40million move from Ajax to Old Trafford.

Donny van de Beek has been one of the mainstays in the Ajax side and Manchester United have emerged as favorites to land the Dutch midfielder, beating competition from other clubs that were interested in him.

According to reports, the likes of Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur were interested in the midfielder, with the latter reportedly making a last-ditch attempt to seal a deal for the player.

Van Dijk has said that the move is a great one for van de Beek and also for the Dutch national team as they look forward to a possible triumph in the UEFA Nations League this year.

In a chat at a press conference ahead of international games against Poland and Italy, Van Dijk said: “I wish Donny all the best wholeheartedly,”

“It is great for him and for the Dutch national team.

“It’s a great club and step for Donny, and the same goes for Nathan Ake [to Manchester City].”

Regardless, it has been disclosed that Van de Beek won’t leave the Netherlands national team early to finalize the move to Old Trafford.

“No, I think it is almost ready,” Netherlands’ interim head coach Dwight Lodeweges said.

“I think there is still a [medical] inspection to go. It will take place.

“I am certainly not going to send Donny home, because he wanted to be here himself. That is also important.”

Van de Beek’s possible addition to the Red Devils will add more depth to the side although it remains to be seen if he will be impressive enough to alter the partnership in midfield between Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
