West Ham agree loan deal in principle for Gedson Fernandes

West Ham have agreed a deal in principle to sign Gedson Fernandes from Benfica on an 18-month loan deal without an option to buy. The Hammers had initially made the loan offer with an obligation to buy for £33m.

Benfica held a meeting on Thursday to carry out discussions on the final conditions of the proposed deal for the 21-year-old out of favor midfielder.

It is also understood that Chelsea have also made an offer for Gedson Fernandes for an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy for £55m.

Regardless, Benfica are in favor of West Ham’s proposition as they believe that Fernandes will likely maintain his value at the London Stadium where they feel he’ll get more first-team action. Chelsea’s offer depends on whether the Portuguese will play at least 50% of games in his loan spell at the club.

Fernandes wants a move to the Premier League and his preferred destination is London due to family reasons and his release clause is £102m.
