Zidane takes blame as Betis beat Real Madrid

Former Barcelona forward Christain Tello broke Madrid hearts when he struck the 82nd-minute winner against the Los Blancos as Betis beat Zinedine Zidane’s men 2:1 on Sunday in La Liga. Therefore, Real Madrid are now two points behind Barcelona despite last week’s triumph in the Clasico.

Zidane shouldered the blame for the result. Betis opened the scoring through Sidnei before Karim Benzema scored the equalizer.

“I blame myself for everything. I am responsible,” the Madrid coach said.

“I will not explain what has happened but it has been our worst game of the season.”

Real Madrid are now 2 points behind Barcelona with 11 games left to play as they fight for the domestic title they last won in 2017. Zidane went on to back his players and noted that their deficiencies would be pointed out to them.

“I will defend my players, if I have something to say I will tell them,” he said.

“We have lost many balls, which never happens to us and that has been our problem.”
