Chelsea assistant manager Gianfranco Zola has asked youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi to remain at Stamford Bridge although he has already handed in a transfer request as Bayern Munich remain hot on his heels.

The Bavarian giants have not hidden their admiration for the youngster which has seen them return with bid after bid in order to secure his signature.

However, the transfer request will definitely force Chelsea’s hands into accepting another bid, having rejected at least 3 bids from Bayern Munich. RB Leipzig have also reportedly entered the race for the youngster.

Callum Hudson-Odoi was handed a start in Chelsea’s FA Cup 2 nil win against Sheffield Wednesday at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and scored the second goal for the Blues. Regardless, he didn’t rule out a move away from Stamford Bridge in a post-match interview.

When asked if the FA Cup game was his final one for Chelsea, he responded: “I don’t know. I can’t say. I just keep working hard and you never know what happens.”

The player’s goal was a testament of his quality and one might begin to wonder why he had not been given a good run of games this season before the interest from Bayern which has seen his game time increase.

Zola pointed out that whilst the fans were keen to see Callum Hudson-Odi remain with Chelsea, he and his colleagues also wanted the same. Speaking with reporters, Zola said:

“We want [Hudson-Odoi] to stay, we were singing as well!

“I don’t know if he will stay. We want him to stay, he has a contract, we are playing him, we believe in what he can do for this team.

“There are not many 18-year-olds in Europe who are playing as much as he is in a big team. That shows we believe him, we think he can be an important player for us, so we will see what happens.

“We can do as much as we can do. He has a lot of strong players around him but we are still finding space to play him.

“If we played him it’s because yesterday in training his attitude was excellent. He really played well.

“He scored a fantastic goal in training yesterday too. He didn’t show any signs which is why he played today.”

Zola, when asked if he could guarantee that the youngster would remain at Chelsea, replied

“I’m not the club.

“I just work for the club. I can do as much as I can, but these are decisions that belong to me.

“There is certainly a good understanding between the club and the management, but I cannot say more than that at the end of the day.”
