Zola – Petr Cech can still perform for Chelsea

Former Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola is certain that Petr Cech can still perform for the Blues at the highest level after the retired shot-stopper was included in the club's Premier League squad for the season. The inclusion was initially seen as a mistake but the club confirmed that his inclusion was correct. It can be recalled that Cech returned to Chelsea last summer in a managerial but has now become a player again. Cech is currently serving as Chelsea's technical and performance adviser but will provide emergency cover in the goalkeeping position which includes the likes of Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Willy Caballero. Klopp and Carragher clash due to no replacement for Van Dijk

It's a no-brainer that Virgil Van Dijk is a big loss for Liverpool after he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the Merseyside derby in the Premier League on Saturday which ended in a 2 all draw. The incident has resulted in a clash between Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and former Reds defender Jamie Carragher, with emphasis on the club's transfer business this summer. Liverpool legend Carragher questioned whether the club should have signed a defensive cover for the injured Dutchman in the course of a chat with Sky Sports on Monday. "Dejan Lovren went and they didn't replace him so they only have three center-backs and one of those, Joel Matip, is always injured," "There are question marks now about Joe Gomez. So there is no doubt that Liverpool had to go big in the tra...

Chilwell says keeping a clean sheet was a must against Sevilla

Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has admitted that the Blues knew eyes were on them in the game against Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League, following their collapse against Southampton in the Premier League last weekend. The Blues played out a barren draw against visitors Sevilla at Stamford Bridge in their first game of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League. New goalie Edouard Mendy and veteran defender Thiago Silva returned to the starting lineup after the poor showing in defense against the Saints. The English fullback accepts the criticisms that came after the performance and noted the pressure on them ahead of the game against Sevilla. “The important thing was the clean sheet,” he said. “We knew people would be looking at us after conceding three goals at the weekend and I thi...

PSG out for sweet revenge against Manchester United

In 2019, a significant number of folks were looking forward to the whitewashing of Manchester United by Paris Saint-Germain in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. The Ligue 1 giants had already won the first leg 2 nil at Old Trafford and just needed to consolidate on the result. However, this was not the case in France as the Premier League outfit beat the Ligue 1 outfit 3:1 and qualified ahead of them to the shock of football fans around the world. The result was further proof that PSG were just perennial bottlers in the Champions League and were only at their best in domestic competitions. My guess is that some of the players over those two legs are still at a loss as to what went wrong that night at the Parc des Princes. READ: UCL Preview – Can Chelsea start of...

UCL Preview – Can Chelsea start off on a high against Sevilla?

Chelsea welcome Sevilla to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday for their first group game of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League. This is preceded by their capitulation against Southampton in the same venue a few days ago in the Premier League. The Blues looked to have the game under control till a mistake from Kai Havertz saw the Saints pull one back in the closing stages of the first half after a Timo Werner brace. The game eventually ended 3 all to Chelsea's disadvantage, as they were 2 nil up just before halftime. Frank Lampard and his men will turn their attentions to the UEFA Champions League as Julen Lopetegui and his men come visiting, off the back of a 1 nil La Liga loss to Granada away from home. The two sides are the favorites in the group on paper and should do enough to progress...

Chelsea tried to sign Ter Stegen from Barcelona

Chelsea now have the likes of Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and veteran Willy Caballero as goalkeepers who will battle for a regular place between the sticks this season.  However, reports have emerged that the Blues approached to sign Marc-Andre ter Stegen from Barcelona before settling for newcomer Edouard Mendy. Frank Lampard prioritized signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window after Kepa failed to convince the Englishman with his performances between the sticks last season. The Spain international was not very convincing and this resulted in him being dropped for a period including the FA Cup final last season. READ: It seems Sheffield United have been found out The Blues were on the search for a new shot-stopper but it became clear that letting go of Kepa...

Premier League Matchday 5 – Everton and Villa to be thoroughly tested

The Premier League's 100 percenters will have the opportunity to prove if they're up for it or if their previous performances have been a fluke and all fairytale. Regardless, I would advise that they shouldn't be written off if they fall short on Matchday 5. Aston Villa and Everton have won all their games thus far. Carlo Ancelotti's men have proven to be a free-scoring side early into the season with 12 goals already to their name with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring 6 of those goals, including one hat-trick. New signing James Rodriguez has also been very impressive for the Toffees thus far with 3 goals already. Aston Villa have been on a roll with an unexpected 3 wins from 3 with new signing Ollie Watkins also impressing and scoring a first-half hat-trick against defending champio...

Villa and Spurs on the beat with biggest PL Matchday 4 shockers

No one saw Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur putting six past Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's Manchester United or Dean Smith's Aston Villa putting seven past defending champions Liverpool. However, this was the case in the last two games on Matchday 4 of the 2020/21 Premier League season. This season hasn't been short of goals with lots of goals being scored thus far and shocking upsets being mounted too. Who would have thought that Everton and Aston Villa would be the only two teams with a 100% record at this point in the season? It's still early days but Carlo Ancelotti and Dean Smith deserve some credit for the performance of their teams thus far. Leeds United are taking the Premier League by storm

In 2001, Leeds United looked destined for great things. Champions League semi-finalists, the Yorkshire club were one of the top teams in England, yet financial disaster struck, and Leeds were relegated by 2004. Now, 16 years later, Leeds are back in the Premier League. Leeds United were led back to the promised land by Marcelo Bielsa, a coach described as the ‘best in the world’ by Pep Guardiola. Armed with an attacking philosophy and a team that won the Championship title by ten clear points, Leeds have already taken the Premier League by storm in the 2020/21 season thus far. The question is, how well can the team perform? Premier League betting markets consider Leeds unlikely to be relegated at 10/1, but avoiding the drop will, of course, be the initial aim for Bielsa and co. Th...
