UCL – Can this Premier League trio make their numbers count?

The Premier League is the go-to league at the moment in Europe after three of their teams have made it to the quarterfinal stage of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League against all odds. We may have predicted this number making it to the round of 16 but making it further? Well, unless the folks at Footiehound are psychic. The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City are in the next stage of the competition and have ignited hopes that the UCL title can end up in England this season. However, can these clubs make their numbers count? England currently has the highest number of representatives remaining in the competition and this is a good one although there is the concern of an all Premier League encounter. Regardless, they've been impressive in the competition this season. RE...

Thomas Tuchel passes first major test as Chelsea boss

Thomas Tuchel has been impressive in his start to life as Chelsea manager and now has 6 wins and 2 draws in 8 games in all competitions including the impressive 1 nil win in the first leg of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash against Atletico Madrid in Bucharest. The Blues' style of play has changed under the former PSG boss as they focus more on keeping possession and dictating play whilst building from the back. The issue of building from the back has been a challenge for most clubs who lack the personnel that are skilled in passing the ball and keeping possession, especially the defenders, and the Blues have shown signs of struggles under the German in these early stages. Chelsea emerged victoriously over the leading table toppers in La Liga in a game that was ...

One news that has made the rounds this week is the one about Chelsea midfielder Willian being offered to Real Madrid, and the Spanish giants opting against making a move for him due to his wage demands. However, one question is this; Are the Blues ready for life without Willian considering he's one of the most experienced players in the team, and will make his experience count when the going gets tough? Willian has been a mainstay at Stamford Bridge since he arrived from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013. The Brazil international, who is now 31, has played vital roles under all the managers that have come and gone at Stamford Bridge in recent times. Chelsea want €40m for Emerson Palmieri

Chelsea are ready to sell Emerson Palmieri but only if the valuation of €40m is met as reports of interest from the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan continue to circulate. A report by The Sun suggested that Chelsea are considering a summer swoop for Leicester defender Ben Chilwell and it is believed that he could be a replacement for Emerson. Therefore, the idea might be to offload the Italian and use some of the funds to ensure a move for Chilwell who is valued at £50m. Emerson, 25, is open to a return to Serie A according to Calciomercato although he's happy in London. Therefore, it would take around €40m to convince Chelsea to let go of the left-back as they are not desperate to see him leave. Blow for Chelsea as Mertens is set to renew Napoli contract

Chelsea's Frank Lampard will have to turn his attentions elsewhere as reports suggest that Dries Mertens is set to sign a new deal with Napoli. The Blues were strongly interested in the 33-year-old but he's set to remain in Italy as he'll be signing a new deal worth £140,000 a week. It appears that Chelsea were not the only team interested in a move for Mertens as Inter Milan had eyes on the Belgium international and were prepared to offer him a three-year deal worth £170,000 according to a report by The Guardian.
