Fifa and Fifpro to launch global fund to protect players’ salaries

Fifa AND Fifpro - the world players' union have set up a fund to protect players' salaries. The FIFA Fund for Football Players (Fifa FFP) is expected to provide financial support for players who have not been paid and will not be paid by their clubs. This was disclosed in a report made by the BBC. Therefore, the footballing body has set aside $16m (£12.3m) for the fund up to 2022, and it has been split into yearly allocations. Meanwhile, another $5m (£3.8m) has also been allocated for players that have been affected between July 2015 and June 2020. A statement released by Fifa and Fifpro read: "While these grants will not cover the full amount of salaries owed to players, this fund will provide an important safety net."
