Mason Mount is a force that has come to stay

The transfer ban against Chelsea did them a lot of good and continues to do so even after the departure of Frank Lampard.

The Englishman was tasked with managing the Blues during the torrid period of no major acquisitions and he chose to stick with one young English player who has proven that he has the quality to thrive on the biggest stage if handed the opportunity.

Chelsea have never been known to rely on players from their academy but had no choice but to do so in the 2019/20 football season as the likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Reece James, and Mason Mount took up important roles in the team.

Mason Mount was one player who never got the credit he deserved in his first season as a regular first-team player at Stamford Bridge. Many pundits and fans believed that he was not exceptional and was only being favored by Frank Lampard.

Some circles referred to Mount as Lampard’s son, because the Chelsea legend had managed the midfielder and given him a key role previously in his time as Derby County manager in the Championship.

Well, Mount’s first season was promising but he still had more to improve on in his role in the middle of the park. In his second season, he was yet again supposedly ‘favored’ by Lampard as he was being featured even when the Blues were struggling.

On Lampard’s exit from Chelsea, there was this school of thought that Mason Mount’s time as a regular in the Chelsea team was over.

However, Thomas Tuchel arrived and was impressed by what he saw as the Englishman proved that his presence in the team was not down to any favors but due to his ability on the pitch.

Since then, Mount has established himself as a key man under Tuchel and was occassionally rested ahead of Chelsea’s big games during the 2020/21 season as the Blues emerged victoriously in the UEFA Champions League for the second time in their history.

He is one tireless footballer who brings a lot to the table with his offensive and occasionally defensive traits.

Mount has gone on to shut the mouths of his critics as his consistency at Chelsea earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad and also saw him start England’s opening match of Euro 2020.

He played the entire game which they won 1 nil and are on course for a good tournament after a decent start.

Mason Mount is a key player at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel and I daresay in the England team. All eyes will be on him next season to see if he’d continue on the same level, improve, or decline but he can only get better in my opinion.
