How can Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United recover in 2023/24?

It’s been an unusual season in the Premier League. Man City were always expected to push for the title and nothing has changed there, but no football betting sites had Arsenal down as the frontrunner at this stage in the season. Liverpool and Chelsea have fallen away while Man United are clearly still in a rebuilding phase, so what would it take for those three to close the gap next year?

Chelsea

Well, they’ve certainly spent enough to be where they want to be. The problem is that there’s no distinct structure or system. Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Frank Lampard are all wildly different managers, making for a confused arrangement.

The American owner, Todd Boelhy is reportedly interested in having Julian Nagelsmann as his head coach for 2023/24 which would signal a quality appointment.

While getting all the luxury pieces of this dollar-bill-laden puzzle to fit might take longer than a single season, fans could expect to be a lot more competitive under the German head coach – especially if the team doesn’t qualify for any European competition.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, and it’s for that reason that a lot of the football betting sites really don’t know how to place Chelsea at this stage.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool might be the hardest team to dissect this year. Beating Manchester City 1-0 was followed by successive losses to relegation-threatened teams like Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

This theme continued as they’ve also lost 3-0 to both Wolves and Brighton, yet did defeat Manchester United 7-0. It makes almost no sense and it’s impossible to predict.

While the departure of Sadio Mane can’t be the totality of the problems at Anfield, it does raise a variety of issues. The Senegalese player would often play off, in, and with Mohamed Salah.

The two notched up 54 goals between themselves last season. Darwin Nunez is not a bad player in his place, he’s just not yet formed the psychic bond with Salah that Mane had. After Mane’s debacle with Leroy Sane at his current team, Bayern Munich, re-signing Mane would be a good step to re-establish the goal-fest.

Furthermore, the defending attributes have been below par. Klopp’s attack-minded setup is built on a sturdy grip at the back. Injuries and fixture congestion granted Joe Gomez a path back into the first team yet has largely drawn criticism since returning to regular football. Trent Alexander-Arnold has also not been himself.

He’s not been the clinical pinpoint crosser so usually seen on the pitch fringes having only made four assists after 29 games. By comparison, he made 19 last season. These issues could be resolved by finding a new crop of defenders to offer quality and invigorate the existing roster.

Manchester United

For many teams, qualification for European football and lifting the League Cup would be a success. Yet for Manchester United, this is a fraction of the success the fans anticipate, having been spoilt with riches during the Alex Ferguson era. Whether or not it is fair to use this extremely high bar, it will not stop supporters from demanding more.

With 30 games played, Manchester United’s problem is that they simply don’t score enough goals. Brentford, Brighton, and Tottenham Hotspur might be lower in the league but have all scored more goals than the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag does like to employ a water-tight defense for sure but after Cristiano Ronaldo left for Al-Nassr, the club needs a new talisman in front of goal.

A comeback could be possible for all three sides, it’s going to be dependent on strong summer recruitment and a vast improvement on this year, but that doubt also means that if you really believe in any of them then this is the time to find value with the best sports betting sites.
