When They Flipped A Coin to Declare A UEFA Euro Winner

As the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament progresses in its knockout stages, everyone knows what will most likely be coming in the near future. One or more of the knockout round matches will end up being decided via a penalty shootout. The supporters of nations that are eliminated through this heart-wrenching and often heartbreaking method of determining the outcome of such important matches will no doubt natter on about the unfairness of it all. Those who bet on football understand succinctly the Euro odds are extremely good that there will be penalty shootouts that determine knockout stage matches. This is vital knowledge for anyone who is wagering on spread outcomes. Since 1972, when the knockout phase was implemented into the tournament, just two of 12 events have reached a conclusion ...

Euro 2020 knockout – The best losers overwhelmed the group winners

It remains to be seen if Euro 2020 belongs to Europe's footballing powerhouses remaining in the competition or if one of the teams whom nobody thought likely would emerge tops as it has been a competition of major upsets. I doubt if anyone would have predicted that none of The Netherlands, France, Germany, and Portugal would compete in the quarter-final stage of Euro 2020. At least, not after the supposedly easy fixtures they were handed in the round of 16 stages, or so we thought. I wrote an article some days back, analyzing the chances of the sides that finished third in the group stages against the supposed favorites who topped their groups. Well. we are now in the last 8 of the competition and three of those best losers are accounted for whilst three group stage winners from t...

Euro 2020 group of death was all hype, big names and nothing more

The Euro 2020 quarter-final fixtures have been decided and will take place in a few days. However, one major thing stands out, and it is the fact that no team from the supposed group of death, Group F precisely, made it to this stage. The likes of France, Germany, and Portugal have been eliminated from the Euros and no one saw this coming. At least one would have expected the French team to make it past Switzerland whilst the others were expected to have it tough against other favorites for the trophy. However, the Swiss team had other plans and refused to give up, beating Didier Deschamps men on penalties in a game where everyone thought the French side had progressed at a point. Portugal were also eliminated by Belgium in a slim 1 nil defeat via a rocket by Thorgan Hazard. Th...

From the European Championship archive: that fateful night at Wembley

Those significant words that have echoed around Wembley Stadium ever since Euro 96 – and been etched in football anthem folklore. Of course, with England hosting the European Championships 25 years ago, optimism was high. And as we gear up to the business end of this year’s tournament, there still is that level of expectation. On Wednesday night, England found out their opponents in the round of 16 – old foes Germany. The Germans had finished runners-up in Group F, dubbed the Group of Death – and Gareth Southgate’s side could have faced any one of France, Germany, Portugal, or even Hungary who caused a scare in their final group game – and went ahead twice against the Germans. As it is, the England v Germany betting odds are in the favor of England and with the match being played at ...

Euros Knockout – Can all the group winners beat their third-placed rivals?

The teams that will participate in the knockout stages of Euro 2020 have been decided. The third-placed sides from various groups that made it to this stage will face the winners of some of the groups in the competition. This means that the third-place sides won't have it easy based on the competition's statistics which favors their rivals but we may be up for some upsets as the knockout stages of Euro 2020 begin. All the sides who won their groups are favorites going into the games, maybe except for a certain Portugal vs Belgium fixture, and a certain Sweden vs Czech Republic fixture where the supposedly lower sides cannot be written off. PORTUGAL VS BELGIUM One of the biggest games of the round is the game between Portugal and Belgium. The Belgians won their group with a 1...

Sterling deserves more credit than he is getting for England at Euro 2020

The Three Lions have progressed to the round of 16 stages of the ongoing Euro 2020 competition after beating the Czech Republic 1 nil in their last group game to end up as group winners. They'll now wait to know their opponent in the next round which will be decided today after the teams in Group F, the group of death settle scores with each other. They'll face the team that finishes second in Group F. Regardless, I'd like to take a look at the performances of the Three Lions' players in the competition and who has been the one producing the goods in terms of results. The English team have scored just 2 goals at Euro 2020 in 1 nil wins against Croatia and the Czech Republic. It can be recalled that their game against Scotland ended in a barren draw. Turkey went from dark horses to the worst team at Euro 2020

The ongoing Euros has provided some shocking performances on both a negative and positive level. However, with regards to the worst performance in the competition, Şenol Günes' Turkey come out tops after producing a disastrous performance in the competition. The Turks were very impressive in the qualifying stages of the competition and almost gave France a run for their money. Turkey qualified as runners-up from their group with 23 points to France's 25 points. They won 7, drew 2, and lost 1 out of their 10 games in the qualifiers and this earned them the tag of dark horses ahead of Euro 2020. However, fast-forward to the present and they are nowhere near being the dark horses of the competition and have produced one of the worst performances ever in the Euros. One can't help but ...

Euro 2020: Who are the best players in the England squad?

Each of England’s players in the Euro 2020 squad is there for a reason: they are the best our country has. But who are the very best? Here is our selection of the top four. Kalvin Phillips OK, so there may be better players than Kalvin Phillips on the England squad when comparing all of the players’ accomplishments and experience, but new boy Phillips outplayed most of them in England’s first game of Euro 2020 against Croatia, so he deserves a place on this list. Right now, Kalvin Phillips is one of the driving forces on the team and we have seen him push himself beyond his previous limits. Gareth Southgate said his performance in the game against Croatia was “outstanding.” We agree. And we predict great things for the midfielder throughout Euro 2020 and England’s future internationa...

The top 3 exceptional sides in the Euro 2020 group stages

The Euro 2020 competition has been interesting thus far as some of the supposed big sides and favorites for the trophy have shown up in style. However, some have been flattering to deceive with the last round of group games to go. Action returns to Group D, E, and F in the coming days to decide the last set of teams that will make it to the next stage of the competition. Regardless, out of all the teams participating, just three have been able to amass maximum points from their group fixtures. These 100 percenters have been very impressive in the competition although it was initially believed that they would receive some run for their money by other sides in their groups. However, this was not the case as they came out tops from all their group games. READ: THE  BEST FREE FOOTB...

It’s do or die day in Euro 2020’s Group of Death

The Euro 2020 competition may not get any fiercer than it will be on Saturday when Germany face Portugal in the second round of group games in the competition's group of death. Group F was tagged group of death after Germany, Portugal, and France were drawn together alongside Hungary who are the whipping boys of the group. The first round of games saw France beat the Germans 1 nil in a game they dominated whilst Portugal thrashed Hungary 3 nil. Therefore, the German's go into the game against Portugal knowing that a loss must be avoided by all means and that a draw may not be good enough. Meanwhile, France will be playing away to Hungary in a game where they are overwhelming favorites. Getting maximum points would see them qualify for the next stage of the competition with a ga...
