Dusan Tadic is the subject of interest as reports suggest that Liverpool are looking in the direction of Southampton yet again for another signing. The Times suggests that the club from the red side of Merseyside are interested in acquiring the services of Southampton attacking midfielder. Liverpool need more legs in attack and the club believes that the quality that Dusan Tadic possesses will suit them.
Dusan Tadic has a release clause of £13 million and Liverpool are reportedly ready to meet the valuation of the Serbian international as demanded by the Saints. If the move materializes, he will join the list of ex-Southampton players who left for Liverpool in recent times. The likes of Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Rickie Lambert, all within the last three years.
This led to some funny insinuations that Southampton could easily pass for Liverpool’s academy. The close relationship between the two clubs appears to have been strained recently over the Reds pursuit of Southampton star defender Virgil Van Dijk, with Southampton lodging an official complaint against Liverpool’s supposed illegal pursuit of the player.
The club received no official bid for the services of Van Dijk although he had reportedly agreed to personal terms with Liverpool. Liverpool subsequently tendered an apology over their method of pursuing the player and have ended their pursuit.
Dusan Tadic joined Southampton in 2014 from FC Twente. However, in his 3 seasons with Southampton, he has yet to hit the level he attained whilst donning the jersey of FC Twente. His highest goal scoring rate per season since he joined Southampton is 8 which he managed to achieve in the 2015/2016 season. Last season’s performance can easily pass for his worst in England as he managed just 3 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions for Southampton.
Liverpool currently boast of a load of relatively quality attacking midfielders in the team. They have the likes of Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho, Georgino Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino, and this has cast doubts on where Dusan Tadic would fit in if he joins. However, the price tag being slapped on the Southampton attacker could be the major attraction for Liverpool to a player of his quality when he is in his elements.
They might need some quality depth in the squad, especially with a possible participation in the UEFA Champions League staring them in the face. Going by the quality of recruitment their rivals are opting for, they may well do with the addition of Dusan Tadic as competition for places in the top 4 next season should be fiercer than it was last season.
