2020/21 PL season – Top four drama awaits on the last day

2020/21 Premier League season reaches its climax on Sunday as all teams will be in action simultaneously as expected. Some teams will be playing their last games in the Premier League till further notice as the three relegated teams have been confirmed namely, Fulham, West Brom, and Sheffield United.

One can’t help but wonder where it all went wrong for the latter who impressed under Chris Wilder last season.

The strongest title contender Manchester City have also emerged victoriously and there won’t be any drama for the title on the final day and it’s been a while we experienced that.

However, the race for the top four will be fierce on the final day as two spots are up for grabs.

Manchester City and Manchester United have already sealed their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League and the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Leicester City will fight for the last two spots.

Unfortunately, one of them will drop into the Europa League after the blast of the final whistle at the respective match centers. It can be recalled that Leicester City failed to make it to this season’s UCL after losing out on the final matchday of last season’s Premier League competition.

They are also in the same situation but don’t have their destiny in their hands. They must win or draw against Tottenham Hotspur and hope that Chelsea or Liverpool slip in their games against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace respectively.

Chelsea, on the other hand, did themselves a lot of good by beating the Foxes in their last Premier League game. They’ll face Aston Villa at Villa Park in a game they also have to win to be guaranteed a place in next season’s UCL regardless of the results from the other fixtures.

Liverpool will welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield that has been less than a fortress for a long while.

Fans are expected in the stadium on the day and should do well to create an atmosphere that will help the Reds garner all three points, consolidate on their recent home wins and qualify for the UCL next season.

On paper, the Foxes have the toughest game as they are not overwhelming favorites for maximum points in comparison to the other two contenders regardless of the venue.

Tottenham Hotspur need a win to secure European football next season and hope that West Ham fail to garner maximum points in their game.

Therefore, Brendan Rodgers and his men have their work cut out for them on the last day of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

Regardless, we await major drama as nothing is cast in stone for Liverpool and Chelsea either but one thing is certain; Leicester need a win to stand a decent chance and hope that one of the other team slip as a draw may not be good enough eventually.

However, if Chelsea and Liverpool win, Leicester City are effectively out of the UEFA Champions League for next season regardless of their result.
