Former Monaco man, Anthony Martial has seen himself drop down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the arrival of Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo.
His United career seems to be edging closer to the dusk due to Ronaldo’s presence that has diminished his chances of playing regularly. Some of his critics believe his inconsistency over the years for the Red Devils is one out of many of his undoings.
Before the arrival of Ronaldo, He’s been finding it difficult to command a regular starting place in the team and the arrival of Cristiano has further compounded his woes. His days at Old Trafford now look numbered.
Antonio Martial’s Triumphant entry at United in 2015 set him apart from his contemporaries as he became the most expensive teenage footballer in history at the age of 19.
United was spun and persuaded by Manchester United manager at that time, Louis van Gaal, to shell out a whooping £36million to sign the Frenchman from Monaco.
With over 250 appearances for the Red Devils in five years, there have been moments of fanfare for Martial to cherish at Old Trafford. The forward scored 17 Premier League goals in the 2019/20 campaign, his highest-scoring season in the United jersey.
He also bagged a hat-trick against Sheffield United that very season. However, Martial has been plundered by an inconsistent form in the Premier League and the professional height expected of him hasn’t been attained.
He has a contract at Old Trafford till 2024, but Manchester United will likely listen to offers in January and cash in on the Frenchman if they can get £40m for him.
Clubs are wishing to have him in their ranks. Tottenham Hotspur amidst the speculations of Harry Kane being wooed by Manchester City were on the queue in the last summer transfer window to acquire Martial as his replacement but the England captain was gagged from moving to the Etihad.
Arsenal were also speculated as his potential destination due to Aubameyang’s goal drought. The Gunners have scored just 2 goals in the Premier League so far this season.
Martial possesses fast legs and an eye for goal, no doubt he would inject pace and a new dimension into the Arsenal side if he’s signed.
Other clubs looking in his direction are Barcelona and Liverpool. It’s now left for Martial to choose his preferred destination after about half a decade in the red shirt.
