Chelsea are reportedly monitoring Atalanta’s 25-year-old left-back Robin Gosens in their search for a new left-back. The future of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain having not made any consistent positive impact under Frank Lampard.
This has resulted in Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta being deployed occasionally in the position although he is naturally a right-back.
However, Chelsea are not the only club interested in Gosens as Inter Milan and Lyon are also keeping tabs on the German.
Lyon saw a €25m bid for Gosens rejected in January and are expected to return with an improved bid. It is believed that Atalanta want close to €30m
Regardless, the Serie A club are already looking at replacements for Gosens. They signed Lennart Czyborra, 21, in January and the club officials have also made contact with the representatives of Wolfsburg’s Paulo Otavio in a bid to further boost their defense.
This development could be a plus for Chelsea who want to part ways with Emerson this summer. He has been linked with a Serie A return to Juventus or Inter Milan after losing his place in the Chelsea team. He has two years left on his current contract with the Blues.
Ben Chilwell has also been heavily linked with Chelsea but the Blues are looking at other alternatives as they believe that Leicester will demand a huge fee for the English defender.
The Blues are also interested in a new striker, and a center-back. They’ve already looked at Porto’s Alex Telles, Basel’s Blás Riveros, Aston Villa’s Matt Targett, and Gosens has now been added to the list of targets.
Gosens can also be deployed as a wing-back and had scored 8 goals and provided 5 assists for Atalanta this season before football was suspended. He has played his part in Atalanta’s impressive efforts this season.
