Courtois and Valverde to return for Madrid against Getafe

According to reports, La Liga have cleared Thibaut Courtois and Federico Valverde to play against Getafe on Sunday.

It can be recalled that both players tested positive for Covid-19 after tests were conducted on Wednesday alongside the likes of Vinicius Junior and Eduardo Camavinga.

However, the aforementioned players have returned negative tests except for the Brazilain and were waiting to be cleared to return to action for Los Blancos.

Marca suggests that they’ve gotten the needed clearance as Courtois and Valverde are free to play while Camavinga will return to action after serving out his suspension.

With regards to Courtois, it seems that his test was a false positive as he is fully vaccinated and didn’t complain of any symptoms. Meanwhile, he submitted two negative tests in the two days that preceded his false-positive test.

Presently, the only definitive positive in Carlo Ancelotti’s team is Luka Jovic. According to  AS, Vinicius’ test on Friday was negative and he could return to training on Saturday if he can submit a second negative test. However, he has been absent from training for about a week and will likely not start for the team even if he returns on time.

The absence of Vinicius and Jovic for the game against Getafe means that Ancelotti will have to improvise as he will be short of numbers in attack. Benzema is expected to start the game but his partner remains a question that is begging to be answered.

Therefore, we may see a return of Eden Hazard to his favorite left position of attack while Rodrygo Goes could start on the right after his 2021 was halted by Covid 19.

The likes of Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio are also available for selection facing time in isolation due to the virus but it remains to be seen how fit and ready they are for the game against Getafe.
