Jose Mourinho and Spurs shouldn’t be overlooked this season

It’s still early days but title contenders for the 2020/21 Premier League season are beginning to pop up and Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur are gradually establishing themselves as one of the favorites for the title.

Some folks feel the Portuguese gaffer has lost it with regards to mercurial managerial skills based on how he left Manchester United and struggled with the North London outfit after coming in to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

However, Mourinho has responded in style with his North London outfit as they currently top the Premier League after 9 games, scoring 21 goals and conceding just 9 goals thus far, the smallest number of goals conceded amongst the top 10.

Tottenham Hotspur have been impressive this season and I can daresay that no one saw them doing this well at this stage of the season. Folks are now trying to recall the genius of Mourinho’s second seasons at the various clubs he’s managed.

Tottenham Hotspur have rarely been known to top the Premier League when the season is beginning to take shape. However, that is the case this season and they’ve been very deliberate about how they’ve done it.

Spurs currently have their attackers enjoying a fine run of form with Heung-Min Son on 9 goals and Harry Kane on 7 goals, and we know it will only get better.

They’ve gotten some fascinating results this season including the 6:1 mauling of Jose’s former club Manchester United at Old Trafford early in the season, and the 2 nil victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City which ensured their place at the top of the log.

Well, will Spurs have the character and grit to maintain this fine form and run this marathon all the way?

This, we will know in subsequent fixtures. We could argue that the victory over Man City was expected as they were at home against a side that have been average at best thus far.

Their next game will be against an impressive Frank Lampard’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the next matchday.

The Blues have started to find their feet this season and seem to have corrected some defensive frailties. They are an attacking side and have scored the most goals thus far with 22 and 10 goals conceded.

The two sides will have their title credentials tested when they face each other as Mourinho returns to the club where his Premier League fame arose.

Good enough, he’s coming with a side in a good run of form and the result, if positive for Spurs will be a pointer that they should be taken seriously in this season’s title race.

Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur have something in the works and subsequent fixtures will prove this.

Hopefully, the present results won’t be eventually chalked off to just fine form or them blowing hot and cold.
