Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that German international Mario Gotze is the best player he has worked with. The likes of Coutinho and Lewandowski missed out on the manager’s affection for his best ever managed player.
Klopp has been opportuned to work with some of the finest footballing talents in his stay at Dortmund and now at Anfield. He led Borussia Dortmund to a Bundesliga title win with a squad that paraded international stars and World Cup winners.
However, Mario Gotze is the player the manager holds in the highest regard in terms of the working relationship he’s had with players he’s managed. When asked to pick the favorite player he has worked with at a charity event in Cape Town, he responded to Soccer Laduma:
“He was unbelievable. The biggest improvement, though, was Lewandowski.
“I keep in contact with a lot of my Dortmund players.
“They were young when I coached them, so I was like a father to them. When I left Dortmund, it’s not so important what people think when you come, it’s more important what they think when you leave.”
Gotze was promoted to the Dortmund senior team when Klopp was in charge. He left for Bayern Munich in 2013, but made a return after three years, and has been linked with a possible move to Liverpool to reunite with Klopp.
