Man United’s contract talks with Angel Gomes are currently at a standstill with time running out as the 19-year-old has just a few weeks left on his current deal at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have offered Gomes a new contract but both parties are yet to agree on a deal. The teenager will be able to leave the club for free next month as his contract expires at the end of June if no resolution is reached.
The Premier League has not yet discussed the fate of players whose contracts with their clubs will end in June before the completion of the league season. Regardless, the youngster has played very few games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term.
There were hopes that Gomes would agree fresh terms but talks have been on hold. The youngster was offered a new contract at the start of the 2019/20 season to keep at the club rather than let him leave on a free transfer. However, he is yet to agree despite improved offers that have been made.
Gomes disclosed that he wants to remain at Old Trafford in a chat with the club’s official website last month:
“I’ve seen it over the years, coming up from the academy and being at United my whole career. It’s what I want to go on to do – win trophies for the club.”
Gomes made six appearances for the Red Devils before English football was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He played his last game for the U23s before the pandemic.
