Lionel Messi has expressed confidence that teammate and France international Ousmane Dembele is capable of reaching his full potential at Barcelona.
It can be recalled that the Catalans signed the Frenchman for €105 million from Borussia Dortmund. His rise to limelight came after he joined Dortmund from Rennes after he was identified by Sven Mislintat, Arsenal’s current head of recruitment.
The player’s career at Barcelona has been hampered by injuries and some disciplinary issues. It can be recalled that the 21-year-old was fined for arriving late to training. He was also handed a mobile phone ban by Barca boss Ernesto Valverde earlier this month.
Regardless, Ousmane Dembele has impressed recently and continues to attract interest from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal. Lionel Messi spoke about the France international in a chat with Marca. He said::
“On the pitch he is a phenomenon and it depends on him, he has all the opportunity in the world to do what he wants.
‘He can be one of the best. On the other hand, he’s a young guy who is adapting to the city and the club.
‘The less you speak about it, the better. It’s necessary to leave him so he can be calm. He has already realised his mistakes and has rectified them. We are going to help him focus on football.’
