Mason Mount is excited at the prospect of working with ‘world-class’ Hakim Ziyech once he completes his move from Ajax to Chelsea. Ziyech is Frank Lampard’s first signing after agreeing on a £37million move in February.
Once he arrives at Stamford Bridge this summer, it’s likely that he will be deployed on either flank or in attacking midfield and will compete with the English midfielder for a place in Lampard’s starting eleven.
Mount has witnessed Ziyech’s genius in a previous loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem in the 2017/18 season and believes they can combine with great effect in the same team.
During a Combat Corona FIFA tournament, Mount said: ‘So two years ago I was in Holland on loan so I knew a bit about him then and obviously how good of a player he is.
‘So obviously it’s another amazing, world-class player joining the club. So yeah buzzing to work with him, train with him and hopefully play with him.’
The Morocco international signed a five-year deal at Chelsea and has registered 8 goals and 21 assists in 35 appearances for Ajax this season and would relieve the creative burden at Chelsea if they fail to retain Willian and Pedro with new contracts.
Mount, on the other hand, has had 6 goals in 41 games in his breakthrough season at Chelsea. The Englishman is looking to maintain his form after the coronavirus pandemic.
‘It’s been difficult just staying inside,’ the 21-year-old said.
‘It’s just a complete change of routine, but I think it’s just the best thing to do, just avoid going out as much as you can, because I think everyone just wants to get this over and done with, back to normal routine, normal football on the weekends.’
