Newcastle make £10m loan move for Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard hasn’t had the best of times since his return to Manchester United. The England international has been offered an escape route from Old Trafford by Newcastle United who have a loan offer to the Red Devils worth £10m for Lingard for the rest of the season.

The two clubs have been in talks since January and are yet to reach an agreement. However, the Magpies have made an offer which they expect the Old Trafford outfit to accept.

Although it is just a loan deal, it could technically be the end of Jesse Lingard’s days at United as his contract with the club expires in the summer.

A loan ensures that Newcastle take over his contract but earlier reports suggested that they would need to double his wages and make him the highest-paid player at the club to make the deal possible. Meanwhile, the move ultimately depends on Lingard’s decision even if United accept the offer.

The player has reportedly ignored interest from West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur this month and is looking to get a new deal at Old Trafford or let the current one expire so he can explore the best option after that.

Newcastle United are ready to offer Lingard around £150,000-a-week for the rest of the 2021/22 season alongside a huge bonus if he helps ensure they remain in the Premier League. They’d also put him under no pressure to stay put with them at the end of the season.

However, if they fail with their move for the forward, the likes of Dele Alli and Ross Barkley are also targets. They are looking to boost their overall squad and remain positive after beating Leeds in the Premier League last weekend.

They are still in talks with Sevilla’s Diego Carlos and have identified Arsenal’s Bernd Leno as a target. They are close to a deal for Bayern Leverkusen’s Mitchell Bakker and still eyeing moves for Reim’s Hugo Ekitike and Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata.
