Perez – Madrid tried to sign Pogba and Lewandowski

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has confirmed that the club have attempted to sign Paul Pogba and Robert Lewandowski in the past.

Real were linked with a move for Pogba throughout the summer while Lewandowski has been a rumored target for Los Blancos in the past.

Perez outlined the difficulty of landing the aforementioned players in a chat: “There are players who don’t get sold.

“We went for Lewandowski for several years and nothing happened because he has no clause, and they [Bayern Munich] won’t sell him.

“There’s no way. And that’s happened with Pogba.

“When certain players can be sold, we can go for them.”

It could be recalled that Paul Pogba admitted wanting a new challenge in the summer and his brother Mathias did very little to quell speculations with his comments.

“Everyone knows that my brother could use Real Madrid and Zidane. Those who have to talk are Madrid and Manchester United.

“I don’t know what to say…Zidane has always spoken well of my brother, it’s an honour.”

Regardless of Paul Pogba’s lack of consistency in a United shirt, he’s still their most valuable player.

Robert Lewandowski’s performances also attracted major interest from Real Madrid. However, he left Dortmund for Bayern Munich in 2014 and has scored at least 40 goals in all competitions in each of the last 4 seasons.

Lewandowski, 31, is one of the prolific strikers in Europe who can actually match Ronaldo’s numbers although they play in different positions. Regardless, he would have been a fine replacement for the Portuguese at the Santiago Bernabeu.

He currently has 4 years left in his current contract with Bayern Munich and there is very little possibility of him making any move to Real Madrid at this time.

The Los Blancos could turn their attention to acquiring Paul Pogba from Manchester United next summer. By then, he’d have just 1 year left on his current deal at Old Trafford.
