Robertson – Atletico celebrated like they have won the tie
Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has slammed Atletico Madrid after their 1 nil win against the Reds in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. The La Liga outfit took the lead in the first leg of the two-legged tie at the Wanda Metropolitano with a 1 nil victory and Robertson believed they felt the job was done.
He said: “That [performance is] what [Simeone] is. When you’re not playing against him it is probably great to watch, but we have no problem with it.
“They celebrated as if they had won the tie. But let’s see. We have some weeks then they come to Anfield. We know our fans will be there, so it is up to them to come as well.”
Saul opened the scoring in the 4th minute through a corner and his attempt was just one of two shots on target in the game. The other was in the 26th minute when Alvaro Morata forced a save from Alisson. Meanwhile, Liverpool had 8 shots in the game but none was on target.
However, Football broadcaster Juan G. Arango was left puzzled by Robertson’s comments considering that the Spaniards were celebrating one of the best performances of the season.
Atletico Madrid have been far from exceptional this season and are 4th in the La Liga, 13 points off first place. Their performance on the night was top notch as they scuppered all of Liverpool’s attempts. The Reds have until March 11 to prepare for the second leg of the encounter at Anfield.
