Sarri – Ronaldo is really happy because his knee is now fine

Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is now fit and firing as his knee problem is behind him. The Portugal international started 2020 with a bang by scoring a hat-trick for the Old Ladies in the 4 nil win over Cagliari. He now has 8 goals in his last 5 Serie A games.

The 34-year-old appears to have returned to his best having gone three games without finding the net at the start of November 2019, and was twice substituted by Maurizio Sarri as he battled a knee problem.

There appears to be no sign of the knee problem recently and Sarri is delighted with Ronaldo’s recent form.

“Ronaldo has not any more problems with his knee and now he is enjoying his great physical and mental condition,” the Juventus head coach told a news conference.

“Finally I can see him really happy because his knee is fine now. He can play at his best now.”

Another player battling with injury woes recently is Matthijs de Ligt. The former Ajax captain played no part and was on the bench in the 4 nil rout of Cagliari. He has not started a Serie A game for a month due to shoulder and adductor issues.

Regardless, he’s yet to replicate his Ajax form in Turin since making the move ahead of the season. Sarri still remains hopeful that he can fulfill his potentials.

“The situation of De Ligt is very clear: I’m sure he’ll become one of the best – or the best maybe – defenders in the world,” Sarri added.

“We need to understand that he was just 19 coming to a club like Juventus and forced to play 23 games in a row.

“He needs to learn a new language and new training technique. In Italy he had to change his way to play and his lifestyle. He had a lot of work to do in the last months.

“He improved a lot, then he had some little injuries. But that’s normal.”
