According to reports, Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla had already signed a one-year contract before undergoing a series of operations on an Achilles problem. The midfielder is currently on a long recuperation process after being exposed to an infection in the course of the initial surgery.
He further revealed that he had undergone 8 operations on the recurrent injury with the most recent taking place earlier this week. The 32yr old has been a major miss for his side since his breakdown in the UEFA Champions League game against Ludogarets in October 2016.
The side seemed to have struggled in midfield in his absence until Wenger was forced to adopt a new formation that has improved his side’s resurgence in that part of the pitch as was evidenced in their recent results.
Cazorla who had an interview with Cadena Cope expressed his admiration for the manager for choosing to stick with him and made some remarks on his hopefulness of contributing significantly to the success of the club in the future.
“They were very good to me, they renewed me before my operation, the manager talked to me and gave me peace of mind,” Cazorla told Cadena Cope.
“It’s been a difficult season since I have not played since November. I’ve been through surgery eight times.
“I had the last one yesterday, and hopefully everything will go well.”
Cazorla who had been a major contributor to Arsenal’s attacking numbers before his injury still believes he has a chance to impress more at the club, although the latest injury setback could keep him off first team football for about 4 months.
However, in his absence, Wenger’s new strategy has seen Aaron Ramsey step up in Arsenal’s midfield with the license to make those tireless and incisive runs into the opposition box.
