Atletico Madrid defender Renan Lodi has tested positive for COVID-19 and will isolate at home while another nine players of the club will be allowed to train after testing positive for antibodies.
The squad were made to undergo COVID-19 testing on Wednesday morning at the club’s training ground in Majadahonda ahead of a return to individual training sessions this weekend.
Reports in Spain suggest that 10 of the club’s players were exposed to the virus but Lodi is the only one who remains contagious.
Therefore, the 22-year-old Brazilian will self-isolate at home while nine of his teammates will commence training on Saturday after recovering fully and no longer pose a threat of transmission.
The club are yet to comment on the reports due to player confidentiality. Lodi will undergo further tests in the coming days and will only be allowed to join teammates in training after two negative reports.
These tests will be 72 hours apart as indicated in a protocol being adopted by La Liga and Spain’s National Sports Council.
Atletico’s training procedure will see six players train separately on each of their five training pitches at once during this initial stage. There’ll be no interaction and a minimum two-meter distance will be maintained between them.
Meanwhile, players a Barcelona and Real Madrid have all been passed fit after testing negative for coronavirus.
